How to Export Netflix Subtitles to Anki (2026)

8 min read ยท Updated June 2026

Turn any Netflix subtitle line into a high-quality Anki flashcard โ€” with audio, translation, and context โ€” in a single click.

What You Need

  • โ†’LangPanda browser extension (7-day free trial, no credit card)
  • โ†’Anki (free desktop app)
  • โ†’AnkiConnect add-on (free, installed in Anki)
  • โ†’A Netflix subscription

Step 1: Install LangPanda

Go to langpanda.com and click "Get Started." You will be directed to the Chrome Web Store (or Firefox Add-ons for Firefox users). Install the extension and create a free account. No credit card is required for the 7-day trial.

Step 2: Install Anki and AnkiConnect

If you do not already have Anki, download it free from apps.ankiweb.net. Once installed, open Anki and go to Tools โ†’ Add-ons โ†’ Get Add-ons. Enter the code 2055492159 to install AnkiConnect. Restart Anki after installation.

AnkiConnect runs a local server that allows LangPanda to send cards directly to your Anki decks. It must be running (i.e., Anki must be open) when you export cards.

Step 3: Connect LangPanda to Anki

Open the LangPanda extension settings (click the extension icon in your browser). Navigate to the Anki tab and click Test Connection. If Anki is open with AnkiConnect installed, you will see a success message. Select the deck you want to export to and choose your card template.

Step 4: Open Netflix and Enable LangPanda

Open Netflix and start any show that has subtitles in your target language. LangPanda will automatically activate and display dual subtitles โ€” your target language on top, your native language below. You can adjust the appearance in the LangPanda overlay that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Step 5: Export a Subtitle Line to Anki

When you encounter a word or sentence you want to study, hover over the subtitle line. An export button (card icon) will appear. Click it to send the line to Anki. The exported card includes:

  • The full subtitle sentence in the target language
  • The translation in your native language
  • An audio clip of the line from the show
  • A screenshot of the scene (optional, configurable)

The card is added to your selected Anki deck immediately. You do not need to switch windows or copy anything manually.

Step 6: Review in Anki

Open Anki and your new cards will be waiting in the deck you selected. Review them using Anki's spaced repetition algorithm. Because each card includes the full sentence context and native-speaker audio, retention rates are significantly higher than with vocabulary-list cards.

Tips for Better Cards

Be selective. Export words and sentences that are at the edge of your comprehension โ€” not too easy, not too hard. Aim for sentences where you understand most of the context but one or two words are new.

Use the sentence, not just the word. LangPanda exports the full subtitle sentence by default. Keep it that way. Sentence cards with audio are far more effective than isolated vocabulary cards.

Review daily. The power of Anki comes from consistent daily review, not from creating hundreds of cards at once. Export 10-20 cards per session and review them the next day.
