Question 1

Is italki or Cambly better for learning English?

Accepted Answer

Both platforms are good for English conversation practice, but they serve different needs. Cambly is better if you want instant on-demand English conversation with a native speaker — you can connect in seconds without scheduling. italki is better if you want structured English lessons with a professional teacher, or if you want to compare many tutors and prices. For pure conversational practice, Cambly's instant connection model is hard to beat.

Question 2

Can you use italki for languages other than English?

Accepted Answer

Yes — italki supports 150+ languages, which is one of its biggest advantages over Cambly. Cambly is English-only. If you want to learn Spanish, French, Japanese, Hindi, or any other language, italki is the only option between the two.

Question 3

Is Cambly cheaper than italki?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how you use it. Cambly uses a subscription model starting at around $10.99/hr for 15 minutes per week. italki's community tutors start from around $4–5 per lesson with no subscription required. For frequent learners who want many hours per week, italki's community tutors are generally cheaper. For occasional English practice, Cambly's subscription can be cost-effective.

Question 4

Does Cambly record lessons?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Cambly automatically records all lessons, which is a significant advantage for review and self-correction. italki does not have built-in lesson recording. If reviewing your lessons is important to you, Cambly's automatic recording is a valuable feature.

Question 5

Is Cambly good for beginners?

Accepted Answer

Cambly is excellent for beginners who want low-pressure English conversation practice. The instant connection model means you can practice anytime without planning, which reduces the anxiety of scheduling formal lessons. However, Cambly tutors are not required to have teaching qualifications, so structured grammar instruction may be inconsistent. For beginners who need structured lessons, italki's professional teacher tier is better.
